Alien Nation

AndrewChange Stories1 commentJune 15, 2010

“There it is, our new home. I know we’ve been without a home planet for the last five thousand years, but now we have one. It’s known as earth.” The Alien General smiled at the prospect of his upcoming success.

“Sir, we’ve had our eye on earth for the last two thousand years at least. Why is it suddenly ready to be taken?” asked his second in command.

“Our strategy worked. We planted a few people in key positions that would be seen and heard by more earthlings than ever before. They were instructed to create constant fear among the people by declaring that a certain group was going to take over and control the other. We asked them to overstate differences and keep people divided.

The fear of differences has always been our best tool, but there wasn’t the ability to communicate to so many so quickly on earth. People stayed in their communities and had the love and security needed to be a little less afraid of each other. They focused more on helping each other out, which did us no good at all.

A couple of world events triggered the deterioration of a sense of safety, and from that point forward it took only a few people, screaming extreme positions, to keep everybody afraid. You see, once people are afraid, they are so easy to manipulate.”

“Is there any group that might present us with problems?” asked the second in command.

“Only the groups and individuals who are working to build community again, while striving to create a peaceful world filled more with love than fear. But they won’t succeed. They’re not loud enough. Besides, there are little behaviors that we encourage that will ensure division continues.”

He turned to a large screen that played the scenes recorded by millions of tiny, wireless cameras on earth. One showed two people gossiping about a colleague, talking about ways to freeze them out of their group. He then turned the cameras to a group of friends that were fighting over politics, each one quoting his favorite, extreme news show without checking the facts.  Then he showed a CEO finding ways to pad his own pocket while the company he was supposed to be leading was failing, costing thousands of employees their jobs.

He stated, “These earthlings do not have to be defeated. They’re defeating themselves.”

“Relationships are all there is. Everything in the universe only exists because it is in relationship to everything else. Nothing exists in isolation.” — Margaret Wheatley

Communicate to “Lower the Heat, Increase the Light” | Highfill Performance Group
June 15, 2010 2:09 pm

[…] I make a personal commitment to share with you anything I find that will strengthen communication between people. I am starting with a new Facebook fan page titled Highfill Performance Group called “Debate without Hate.” This will be a place intellectuals can share their opinions without the fear of being personally slammed. If anybody gets personal or becomes a hate monger, they’ll be asked to leave immediately. If you want to think about what happens to a world that won’t communicate, read my story “Alien Nation.” […]
