You know why I love the woman in this photo? Because she’s my friend and she knows how to have fun. She is one of the people that creates a new story every single day, with new adventures. Sometimes I think we become so “corporate-ized” we forget that we are interesting people with fascinating stories hidden beneath confining suits.
Mired in the muck of routine and thoughtless action, we need to reconnect with our ability to imagine something greater. All of us used to be small children who used our imagination to turn a creek into a raging river, a funny shaped rock into a throne, and a stick into a wand. We could turn anything into a new story. I remember using branches from a weeping willow to horsewhip my brother for stealing a pig (our dog, Mitzie, who looked like a pig).
Okay, so I was a little violent. The point is, I think we have reversed the imagination machine in corporate America. We constrict ourselves with acceptable language, and a hamster-wheel of meetings that discuss the last meeting to prepare for the next meeting. We enter the machination of what’s already been done and come out corporate clones, stripped of our stories.
To stretch your imagination, try the following:
Here’s the best news – our minds are constricted by absolutely nothing except our unwillingness to stretch them. Stories create the magic of reintroducing the mind to the heart – the dynamic duo. Next time you go to work, put on your big, fun glasses and see the world through the framework of a new story. It will be magic.
