Changing direction in life requires a lot of power, and I have changed direction enough to know. If I were a windsock you’d have no idea what direction the wind is actually blowing.
But my journey through so many changes has helped me deduce where to draw power, even when you want to put on your bunny slippers, grab some chocolate, turn on House Hunters and never get off the couch.
Once, while I was sitting on my couch in bunny slippers, I read a biography of the talented Dick Van Dyke. Towards the end of the book he was asked about his secret to longevity. His answer?
Just Move!
Sometimes my head says, “move!”
While the brain refuses.
My thoughts say “go!”
While my feet are useless.
I ask for direction
Is the universe is lazy?
I wait for sanity
But the gods must be crazy.
The fears pile up
Along with the bills.
My heart and brain
In a battle of wills.
So what do I do now?
Do I wait for a sign?
Or do I sit on the couch
And groan and malign?
Perhaps I need to stop
The dream analysis
And take one step
To unfreeze my paralysis.
It’s in the movement
that answers arrive.
It’s in the doing
that I feel alive.
So I’ll stop the waiting
And start moving my feet,
For I have found it’s the journey,
That makes me complete.
