Stilettos are for Hookers

Maybe it’s because I don’t like high heels, but I have a real problem when I see women walking the streets of cities like New York in power suits and stilettos.

Do they know the reason for high heels? They were created for much the same reason that women’s feet used to be bound in China. Subjugation.  From an article found on http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=8966942:

Some scholars say footbinding deepened female subjugation by making women more dependent on their men folk, restricting their movements and enforcing their chastity, since women with bound feet were physically incapable of venturing far from their homes.

Footbinding includes breaking all the toes and binding them to the bottom of the feet. Don’t even look at pictures of it, especially on a full stomach. I think we’re still buying into a male’s desire by binding our power.

Think about the similarities between footbinding and stilettos:

  • After spending a day in high heels, my toes FEEL broken. As does the ball of my foot.
  • Ever tried to run in stilettos? Definitely restricts the movements and keeps us from getting away from anybody or anything.
  • When was the last time you saw a hooker in flats? Always in spiked heels.

I remember once when I was twenty-years-old walking down the sidewalk and getting my high heel caught in a grate. I fell forward, ripping my pantyhose at the knees. I looked up and saw some men staring at me. They liked it.

Any Orthopedic doctor will tell you that high heels actually throw out your spine, and yet I see little girls like Suri Cruise running around in heels at the age of four.

Let’s stop the subjugation. I say we all burn our heels the way we once burned our bras (something I would not recommend for the 50+ group). Let’s have a big bonfire, and then walk away in our Nikes and/or Birkenstocks.
